Fundamentals of Biological Dentistry; Thursday, September 10
Registration: 8:00 a.m.
Meeting: 8:30-5:00 p.m.
Dr. Richard Chanin, DMD, MIAOMT is presenting the "Fundamentals of Biological Dentistry." It is a "how to" presentation on setting up and operating a biological dental practice. It also covers all the basics of mercury 101-102. Joining Dr. Chanin in this all day seminar are Marcia Basciano, DDS, MIAOMTand David Kennedy, DDS, MIAOMT. Dr. Basciano will be discussing the equipment needed to run a mercury-free practice. Dr. Kennedy, a world leader in the fluoride issue, will be giving a presentation on fluoride and biological periodontal therapy. This special presentation is a must for all new members and those who want to stay current on these issues. Whether you are new to biological dentistry or have been practicing for years, you will find this course exceptional. There are separate registration and fees associated with this course. 1st Attendee $150 Each Add'l Person $100
Friday Symposium: September 11
Murray Vimy, DMD, FIAOMT, FAGD- If we'd only known what we knew!
Of great importance to us, Dr. Vimy was the founder and first President of IAOMT.
Sami Sandhaus, DDS- New Aspects of Imuno Compatible Restorative Dentisty by using Zirconia
Aspects include hysto compatibility and esthetic. Dr Sandhaus’ recent works have led to the implementation of Zirconium Millennium implant and to robotic based instrumentation.
Narasimham Parinandi, PhD- Mercury Induced Vasculotoxicity and Impairment of Angiogenesis
You will learn about Dr Parinandis’ latest work on mercury toxicity at the vascular (blood vessel level) and chelation protective strategies.
Sam Ziff, ND- A Nostalgic View
In 1984, Sam also started publishing the bi-monthly Bio-Probe Newsletter. Author of several books including Dentistry Without Mercury and Dental Mercury Detox and several others. Member of the IAOMT since the second meeting. Sam will give a Nostalgic view of the IAOMT and the progression through the years.
Boyd Haley, PhD, MIAOMT- Mercury, Science and Politics 2009
Learning Objectives:
1. The nature of most mercury exposures to the average American.
2. The organs of the body that are affected most by mercury exposure and the biochemical effects of this exposure.
3. The secondary effects of mercury or other toxicants that induce oxidative stress or low glutathione levels.
4. The direct effects of low glutathione on hydroxl free radical damage and viral replication.
Saturday Symposium: September 12
Anne Summers, PhD- The Effects of Amalgam-Derived Hg on Commensal Bacteria and Vice Versa
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn: - how Hg released from amalgam fillings enriches the proportion of antibiotic multi-resistant bacteria in the oral and intestinal microbiota - that intestinal bacteria use amalgam-derived Hg to synthesize methylmercury - that exposure of bacteria to inorganic Hg or organomercurials damages key proteins in major metabolic pathways that are highly conserved from bacteria to humans.
David Kennedy, DDS, MIAOMT- The Latest IAOMT Risk Assessment for Ingested Fluoride
Attendees will understand the basis of risk assessment and how to apply these concepts to many substances. In addition they will be apprised of the latest research and cancer links to fluoride.
Walter "Jess" Clifford, MS, FIAOMT- Impact of Restorative Materials Selection on Fine Dental Medicine
Learning Objectives:
1. Clinical lessons drawn from 20- plus years of screening testing on more than 49,000 patients.
2. Differentiating biological, electo-galvanic and microbial adverse materials reaction.
3. Resolving issues when dental materials are in conflict with other sources throughout the body.
4. Seperating fact from fantasy for patients suffering from media-induced hyper-panic about restoratives.
Phyllis Mullenix, PhD- Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Fluoride Poisoning: A Receptor Malfunction Disease
Learning Objectives: To explain the symptoms of chronic fluoride poisoning as a function of G-protein and other receptor disturbances, the key to diagnostic and treatment strategies.
Christopher Shade, PhD- Looking Inside the Black Box: Understanding Analytical Approaches, Diagnostic Tools and Detoxification Strategies for Mercury Intoxication
Learning Objectives:
1. Differentiate the major forms of mercury that humans are exposed to and understand their differences.
2. Understand how mercury speciation analysis and compartment ratio analysis expands diagnostic utility of non-challenged mercury measurements and why challenge tests are not necessary.
3. Become familiar with auxillary diagnostic measurements (e.g. porphyrins, glutathione, thioredoxin) that reveal stressors to the organism.
4. Understand the 3 phases of detoxification.
5. Understand the Glutathione System and its central importance to health and detoxification.
6. Understand how intestinal health can control detoxification.
Ronald Dressler, DDS, MIAOMT, Phillip Sukel, DDS, MIAOMT & Boyd Haley, PhD, MIAOMT- 25 year Retrospective of the IAOMT
The IAOMT takes a look at their past history and how they got to their present position. Each of these members have been with the Academy since the beginning.
